CONFLICT FREE DIAMONDS

OUR ETHICAL POLICY

At Diamond Heaven we strongly believe in providing all of our customers with conflict free diamonds. All of our diamonds are purchased from companies who are members of The Kimberley Process and ensure all our diamond suppliers do not sell blood diamonds.

WHAT IS A CONFLICT DIAMOND?

Conflict-free diamonds have become an increasingly important topic in the jewellery market. The term ‘conflict-free’ refers to diamonds that are sourced from legal, reputable sources, meaning that no one was forced to be part of the process or harmed in any way. As such, there is a growing demand for conflict-free diamonds in the jewellery sector.

Conflict free diamonds are mined through legitimate methods and trading practices, meaning that there is no exploitation of people or conflict involved in the process. It is also important to note that conflict free diamonds are not the same as ‘conflict diamonds’ – with the latter diamonds being mined illegally and traded in the black market, often fuelling conflict and human rights abuses in conflict-stricken areas.

WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE A CONFLICT FREE DIAMOND?

So why should people choose a conflict-free diamond instead? Firstly, it is an ethical choice – as conflict-free diamonds are sourced responsibly, there is less chance of having a negative impact

HOW DO I ENSURE I DON’T PURCHASE A BLOOD DIAMOND?

All the diamond companies we trade with are members of The Kimberley Process. This ensures that they buy diamonds from trusted ethical sources.

WHAT IS THE KIMBERLEY PROCESS?

The Kimberley Process is an international diamond certification scheme which was established in 2003 to stop the trade of conflict diamonds. The aim of the process is to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the diamond market, thereby suppressing violence and corruption caused by the diamond trade. Under the system, all rough diamonds must have a certificate that guarantees that the diamonds are from legitimate sources and not from a conflict zone. The Kimberley Process requires governments, companies, and individuals to provide a guarantee that the diamonds are trade-free.

ARE LAB GROWN DIAMONDS ETHICAL?

Lab grown diamonds are considered ethical compared to mined diamonds because they do not entail the human rights violations commonly associated with the diamond mining industry, such as the use of child labor and unsafe working conditions. They also avoid the environmental damage associated with conventional diamond mining, as they do not require the displacement of land and significant volumes of soil.
